A mate born from mate. Changüi transforms recycled yerba mate fibers into a beautifully crafted, sustainable mate cup that honors Argentina’s most iconic tradition while giving new life to the very ingredient that started it all.

Mate is more than a drink in Argentina — it is a ritual of connection, conversation, and shared moments. Changüi takes that tradition one step further by reimagining how a mate can be made.
Created in Mar del Plata, Argentina by industrial designers Joaquín de Tomaso and Tomás Zaragoza, Changüi is an innovative artisan mate cup produced from recycled yerba mate powder recovered from Argentine yerba factories. Through a carefully developed process, these fibers are transformed into a durable biopolymer, giving new life to material that would otherwise go unused.
The result is a sustainable mate that feels modern yet deeply rooted in tradition. Its handcrafted body is combined with a reforested Paraíso wood base and finished with water-based inks and laser engraving.
Each mate features a unique faceted design with 20 surfaces that symbolically converge into a cylinder — representing unity and connection during the global pandemic that inspired its creation.
Unlike traditional calabash mates, Changüi requires no curing before use, offers excellent thermal insulation, and maintains the authentic taste of yerba mate.
The set includes a nickel-plated bronze bombilla with a removable filter and a reusable tube package that doubles as a yerba storage container, making it both a functional ritual tool and a meaningful design object.

For Argentines living abroad, Changüi is a powerful reminder of home.

For international customers, it is a beautiful and sustainable introduction to one of Argentina’s most beloved traditions.
