Traditional Mate Preparation

1. Fill the mate gourd about ¾ full with yerba mate.
2. Cover the top with your hand, invert, and gently shake to settle the powder.
3. Tilt the yerba at a 45° angle.
4. Pour a little lukewarm water at the base to moisten it.
5. Insert the bombilla (metal straw) into the moist area.
6. Pour hot water at 70–80°C (160–175°F) near the bombilla.
