Changüi reimagines Argentina’s most iconic ritual through circular design—transforming recycled yerba mate fibers into a beautifully crafted, sustainable mate cup that connects tradition, innovation, and purpose.
Mate is more than a drink in Argentina—it’s a daily ritual of connection, conversation, and shared moments.
Changüi takes that tradition one step further. Designed and produced in Mar del Plata by industrial designers Joaquín de Tomaso and Tomás Zaragoza, this innovative mate cup is crafted from recycled yerba mate powder recovered from Argentine yerba factories. Through a specialized process, these fibers are transformed into a durable, BPA-free biopolymer—giving new life to a material that would otherwise go to waste.
The result is a mate that feels modern, sustainable, and deeply rooted in Argentine culture.
Its handcrafted body is paired with a reforested Paraíso wood base and finished with water-based inks and precision laser engraving. The unique faceted design—composed of 20 converging surfaces—symbolizes unity and connection, inspired by the global pandemic that shaped its creation.
Unlike traditional calabash gourds, Changüi requires no curing, offers excellent thermal insulation, and preserves the authentic taste of yerba mate.

How to Use
- Fill the mate about ¾ full with yerba
- Tilt slightly and insert the bombilla
- Add warm water (75–80°C / 167–176°F)
- Sip, refill, and enjoy the ritual
